SAVAGERY OF THE WHARF.

Shortly aftqr 10 o'clock last night, oil the Queen Street Wharf, a serious disturbance took place, resulting in PoliceConstat 1 !* Dwyer being very seriously injured. , , The conslablo had occasion to arrest one of a number of men, when ho was assaulted by seven or eight of the mail's companions—presumably firemen oft' tho steamers in port, lie was knocked down, and kicked on tho head, legs, and body. 'Constable Crichton ramo to his assistance and between them the two eonstables managed with difficulty to take in charge Prancis Wallace, a fireman otr the Makura. , V reinforcement arrived to find that the men had decamped. The policemen searched tho steamers at tho wharves, but were able to identify only ono of tho crowd, Constable Dwyer being unablo on account of injuries to accompany them for the purpose. This man (roter Graham) was found on (ho Makurn, where ho was engaged as fireman. This morning both men appeared on charts of assaulting and resisting tho constable, and Sub-Inspector Hendry il«kcd for a week's remand, stating that Conslablo Dwyer had been so eovoroly kicked on the face, ljcdy, and lejs that he was confined to bed, and that more .serious charges would probably bo laid against the accused. Graham, who appeared without eont or vest, and with n black eyo, and Wallace wero represented by Jlr. Matthews, who said that Graham would plead "Guilty" and Wallace "Not guilty" to tho charges. The remand was granted, and bail was, fixed at two sureties of -CSO oncli. ——• • <
