ANNUAL REPORT OF TOE WELLING* TON CENTRE. Tho animal report of the Wellington Centre ct' the New &alaiid Amateur Athletic Association, to be presented at tho annual meeting, to bo held on Monday next, states that:—Considering the heavy expenditure incurred during, tho season, the balance-sheet must bo regarded as being very satisfactory. For tho first time, tho centre accepted the responsibility of financing a team to the New Zealand Cross Country Championship. 'There, were sixteen affiliated clubs during tho past season—one less than tho previous year. During the season tho following affiliated clubs held aftnrjioon meetings:— Wellington A.A. Club, Port Nicholson A.A. Club, Woodvillc A.A. Club, Waiiganui A.A. Club, llawera A.A. Club, Manawatu A.A. Club, Wairarapa A.A. Club, and Southern Hawke's Bay Public .Schools Association. In addition, nil but one or two clubs licit] several evening meeting;), Tho various afternoon meetings were all Very successful from a sports standpoint, but (here was a financial loss in one or ■ two instances. Seventeen permits were. is-, sued to outside Iwdios- to run events under N.Z.A.A.A. rules. In four cases tho ixm> mits were for meetings which were wholly amateur, but tho remainder were issued, to professional bodies, who desired to include amateur events ou their programmes. Tho most noteworthy of tho latter was the Wanganui Caledonian Society, which formerly catered for the professionals only, but last season placed amateur running events only on its programme. The society was well satisfied with the sport provided by the amateurs, mid has staled its intention of again providing for amateur races only during tho ensuing season. It is pleasing to note llio increasing interest in the harriers' branch of tho sport. The Brooklyn Club has now a Wpiinowlay branch, with a large number of enthusiasts. It is intended to apply for separate affiliation for llio, .Wednesday section before next season, while a Harrier Club, newly formed at Knrori, also intends to affiliate. Next season tho centre should consider the advisability of having a provincial crces country championship.
