WIRELESS ON THE 'WIMMEEA. When tho Wimmcra was at Sydney last tho preparatory work for a wireless npparatUß was put in hand, the operator's house being erected on the bridge deck. When she reaches Sydney aeain on October 6 tho installation work will bo continued, and thereafter as opportunity offers. It is expected that the work will bo completed by the end of October. Tho installing of the apparatus on tho Victoria, now at Sydney, is being advanced another stage, and it is expected that she will havo her enuiprneiit in working order before tho Wiinmcra. WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY ON A SAILING SKIP. An interesting example of the use of wireless telegraphy on a sailing ship la furnished by the equipment of the cadet-shin Mersey, belonging to the White Star Line, which recently arrived in tho Thames after a vovago round tho world. Tho wirelcstj installation is of the Marconi typo, and, according to an article by Lieutenant Cross, tl;c instructor on board the Mersey, which appears in the August issue of tho "Marcoiiigraph," the system worked admirably. The installation is unique, in as much as it is claimed to be the first instance of a sailiiiK vessel carrying a wireless equipment, and the fact that tho apparatus on tho Jlersey worked for eleven months without a single breakdown, notwithstanding tho fact that none of tho men on hoard had had any practical experience with wireless tclegraphly. is a. tribiilo to the efficiency of tho Marconi system. Owing to Captain Murray boine- indicponcd. Captain T. Cooper hns taken charge of the coastal steamer Crenel. The F.-H.-S. liner Morayshire, which was to have left Liverpool for WeltiiiEton, via wav ports ,011 September 16. has been delayed at the Home part for three weeks, on account of the recent strikes.. She will not sail until October 6, and is due at Wellington on December 8. The Orari. which is now laid up at Port Chalmers, was docked yesterday for cleaning and painting. She sails .".bout the end of this week for Wellington, and thence proceeds to Australia.
