INCREASES OF PAY.
FOR HARBOUR BOARD MEN. . TOTAL COST, JCII7I. _ The Harbour Board last nigbt grantecl increases (o permanent aud casual employees estimated (o amount in the aggregate to .£ll7l per annum. The matter was dealt with by the board in committoo, by a series of recommendations from the Wharves and Accounts Committee-. Tlio following were the recommendations adopted :— That with regard to the tally clerks' petition (he committee regrets' that it cannot see its way to grant the requests, and recommends the board to take no action. That an increase of Gd. per day be E"nted to the tolls' clerks (estimated cost M 2 Bs. per annum.) That an increase of Gd. per day bo granted to each grade of storemen. (Estimated cost .£265 Js. per annum.) That an increase of Gd. por day 1)9 granted to all permanent.-labourers 'after four years service. (Estimated cost, .£231 for first year.) That permanent labourers wilb ton years service receive 9s. Gd. per day. (Estimated cost, .£ls 12s. for first year.) that permanent labourers receive 2s. per hour, instead of Is. Cd. per hour overtime for manual Labour. (Estimated cost per annum negligible; very little done.) that with regard to accident pay, tlio present rule obtain, and that each caso brought before the committco bo dealt with oil its merits. That no increase of pay bo granted to tho mglitwatcnmen, but that four weeks' annual holiday leave on pay bo givan, instead of two weeks, as at present. (Estimated cost, .£B4 per annum.) XllO per annum.) that the "Whakariro" deck-hands be granted an increase of 10s. per month, and that the pay for Sunday watching be raised- from Ss to 10s. per day. (Estimated cost, .£(ls per annum.) " That the casual crane-drivers' pay for discharging and loading at ships bo increased from Is. 3d. to Is. sd. per hour ordinary tune, and from 2s. to 2s. Gd. por hour overtime. (Estimated cost, por annum.) That tho casual riggers receive £3 per week lor 5-J days' work. (Estimated cost, .£3!) per annum.) That tho launch man of tho s.s Hnia receive an increase of £1 per month, viz, from .£l2 to .£l3 per month. (Cost, .£l2 per annum.) That tho mechanics' labourers (casual) be paid for actual time worked at tho rale of 9s. per day, in place of Bs.
