THE COUNCIL TAKING ACTION,

Recreation grounds for Miramar formed a question which received attention at the meeting of tho Borough Council last night. Tho matter was introduced by tho Mayor (Mr. J. The flat was tho place that would suffer if over any slums • arose, and the proposal was a safeguard for tho future. If they could mako provision .for twenty acres of recreation grounds, it would not only increase tho valuo of property, but would be a great service to tho rising generation. Tho Mayor replied that the whole matter could bo better discussed in committee. Councillor Stone thought that it was obvious that something would havo to bo dono towards ensuring recreation grounds for tho future. The Mavor observed that it was a matter that could not be allowed to drift on indefinitely. In tho course of a few years they might not hare the mmo opportunity of acting. But, if 'tho council stepped in now, very probably they could mako tome satisfactory arrangement, He moved that Councillors Stone, Bowie, and Kichards ho appointed a committoo to bring clown a report on tho matter at the next or somo following meeting. . , . Mr. llcll ventured the opinion that limo acres of flat land in tho north end could be had for tho asking.

The Mayor said that when the comieil had carried out tho scheme they could look upon the borough as fairly well provided for, and those who were so keen | on town-planning would have nothing to complain of. Their streets were wide and of uniform formation, and their system of (roe-planting left nothing to be dosired. ' The motion was carried unanimously/
