OBITUARY.

MR, W. H. QUICK. . Mr. William Henry Quick, barristep and solicitor, who had been ailing for some considerable time, passed away at hie residence on Wellington Tcrraco shortly before noon yesterday. Deceased, who was greatly Tespccted and esteemed in this city, was a son of the R«v. W. A. Quick, who is still alive in Australia. The Into Mr. -Quick was born in Sierra Loouo, West Africa, on October 15, ISM, and was educated in England, in New South Wales, and in Tasmania. Ho was originally intended for Hie Equity Bar, but had to abandon the idea owing to a breakdown in his health.' Ho served his articles in Sydney, under Sir George Wigrarn Allen, and was admitted as a solicitor there in 1800. Soon after that ho camo to Wellington, aud loier removed to Wanganui, where he entered into partnership with Dr. Pcrham, solicitor, in that town, remaining there until 1870, when ho returned, to. Wellington, lie became a partner of the late lion. A. Do Bathe Brandon, barrister aud solicitor, and was associated with that gcutloman for Beven years. After that ho practised his profession by himself until 1908, when Mr. W. I , '. Ward joined him. For many years Mr. Quick took an, aetivo interest in local affairs. He was a prominent member of tho Church of England, and was Chancellor of the Wellington Diocese from 18S5 until AMI last, serving first under tho lato Bishop Uadfield and subsequently under Bishop Wallis. In tho days of the Maori War ' ho was a member of the militia, aud for many years he was an officer in tho Wellington lliile Battalion, rising to tho rank of major. Ho was also a trustee of the Wellington Collegiato School, a director of tho Bank of New Zealand until his death, an ex-member of the Victoria Collego Council, a former commodore of tho Port Nicholson Yacht Club, chairman of tho old Wellington Conciliation Board, and a member of the Thormlon Bowling Club. Before tho ward system waa abolished, Mr. Quick was elected to represent the Lambton district on tho City Council, and ho proved nn exceedingly useful member of that body. By his death the Masonic fraternity loses one of its prominent members, tho deceased having been a, past master of Lodge Aorangi, E.C., and also a past master or Lodge Waterloo,.S.C. Mr. Quick had been in ill-health for a long time, and for some weeks past he had bosn confined to his bed. lie is survived by a widow (only daughter of the lato Captain' Goo. Thomas, of Wellington), and a son (Mr. Austin Quick, of Messrs. Hoggard and Proviso's staff), and thrco daughters, viz,, Mrs. Kemp-Welch, of England; Mrs. Inglis, of Australia; and Miss Dorothy Quick, of Wellington. Tho funeral is to taVe place on l'riday, leaving tho family residence at 10 a.m. A short service at St. Paul's ProCathedral will precede tho interment.

MR. WILLIAM INGLIS. An old resident of Fet'one passed away yesterday in tho person of Mr. Wm. In(,'lis. The late Mr. Inglis was a Bon of the hto Dr. Inglis, of Mo?giel, one of the first medical practitioners in Otago, nnd was about •Iβ years of age. He studied medicine in Duncdin and then came-' to Wellington where- ho was associated with Mr. W. E. Woods, chemist. Subsequently ho settled in Wangnnui find later took up his residence at l'etone where he has resided for the past 20 years. Mr. InRlis wns a keen sportsman nnd n\iß particularly interested in cricltot. Ho was ono of t'ho founders of tho first l'etone Cricket Club about eighteen years ngo. When the proposal was made to establish tho Jlutt Valley Trolling Club, ho was equally enthusiastic, and was among tho original founders, nnd for nemo time acted as hnndie.ippor. For t'he past nine years deceased woe a. member of tho llutt Licensing Bench. He retired frum'this body just prior to the last annual weetiiiK in .Tune. The late Mr. tnglis was a Past" Master of tho Ulster Lodge of,freemasons. He was »Ipo n Justice ,of t'he IVace. It is about fourteen months sinco he was overtaken by the illness which hiia ended in death. Tli* hte Mr. luglis was twice married, nnd wcond wife and five children survive him.
