OBITUARY.
LORD CHANCELLOR OF ( IRELAND. By Telegraph—Press Association—Cojyrieht (Rec. August 15, 1.15 a.m.) London, August 14. The death is announced of' Sir Samuel Walker, Lord Chancellor of Ireland, aged 79. The Right Hon. Sir Samuel Walker, Bt:, P.C., has been Lord Chancellor of Ireland' since 1905. He was bom in County Westmeath, Ireland,'in 1832, and was educated at Putarlington School and Trinity College, Dublin. He was admitted to the Irish Bar in 1855, and in 1884 was elected to the llouso of Commons for Londonderry, and was Solicitor-General for Ireland" from 1883 to 1885, in which year he was appointed Attorney-General lor Ireland. Ho held the office of a Lord Justice of Appeal from 1895 to' 1905. A CELEBRATED DUTCH ARTIST. The Hague, August 13. Josef Israels, the celebrated Dutch artist, is dead. The deceased painter was born at Groningen in 1824, and stuiiod at Amsterdam under ICruseman, and in Paris under I'icquet. He has painted many domestic genre pictures, and has been ' awarded many medals and honours.
