FORECAST AND SUMMARY. Present indications are for a Elicht rise in barometric pressure precedine a further fall. Fair weather is probable generally though hazy and unsettled at times in many part 3 of tho country, and especially on the West Coast and Eouthern districts of the South Island. Moderate to strong northerly jvinds predominating generally. Tho barometer fell steadily in the south on Saturday, but commenced to rise everywhere about Sunday noon. Cloudy weather and misty rain were experienced in many parts, and conditions were generally mild, and the winds moderate and variable. DISTRICT REPORTS. (From Our Special Correspondents.) Wanganui, July 31.—Beautiful, wajm spring day. Fcilding, July 31—Eainy morning; fine afternoon; frosty night. l'almerston North, July 31—Very light frost this 'morning, followed by a fine day, though at times threatening. Shannon, July 31.—Sunday was bright and mild, but rain fell in the evening. Monday was line and mild. Otaki.—July 31— Frost, followed by sunshine; overcast during the afternoon. Featherston, July 31—Slight frost this morning; bright, fine day. Hastings, July 31.—After a long spell of unsettled weather a welcome chance has taken place. Both yesterday and to-day the conditions were perfect, sunshine prevailing all day. Masterton, July 31.—The Eev. A. Hodge Teportcd at six o'clock to-night for the previous .twenty-four hours as follows— Shade temperature: maximum 62.6dcg., minimum JBdcg., mean E0.3 deg.; earth radiation, 30dcg., being 2dcc. of frost; oarth temperaturo (1 foot below surface), 47.8dcg.; wind, light air, K.; Tain, nil; weather, clear spring day. The rainfall for the month has been very heavy. 7.43 inches having fallen on seventeen days. Frost occurred on twenty-ono days, the most severe being RSdeg. on July 15.
