o PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON. London, June 22. Sir and Lady Mills, and Miss Mills have arrived in Londoa, and are at 41 ClaTgcs Street. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Hume, of Wellington, with their family, are visiting England for three or four months. Messrs. E. and E. Ciibbe, of Feilding, have returned to London, , after touring Franc* , , Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium. Mrs. C. A. Holgate, of Wellington, and Miss Grady, who arrived in London late in May, intend to spend some ten or twelve, months in England. Mr. and Mrs. E. Squire, of Dunedin, mid their daughter, who arrived by tlss Orvieto, will visit Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Manchester, and remain in this country till October. Mr. Ernest Denton, of Palmerston North, who came to England by tho Omrali, primarily for health's sake, proposes to do some photographic press work when occasion offers. • Mr. John AV. Beanland, of Christchurch, is in England, and intends to.spend tho next four months in London, the Cumberland Lako district, Scotland, Ireland, and the Continent. Mrs. Howden, of Wellington, who is on a visit to relatives and friends in various parts of the United Kingdom, leaves for New Zealand by the Morayshire about the middle of September. Mr. J. Hay, of the New Zealand University, arrived recently on a pleasnre trip. He will represent the University at tho Quincentennial Celebrations of St. Andrews, to be held in September. .The Vcn. Christopher Kobinson, late of Dunediu. arrived in London recently, with Mrs. Kobinfon, from Pan,. Miss Hilda Noms, of Wn.nganui, who has spent some twelve months in travelling in England with friends, intends to make a trip through France and Switzerland, and will thereafter reside for a time in the South of England. Mr. sad Mrs. G. Miller, of Duuedin. have arrived in London on a six-months' pleasure trip. They propose to lour in Scotland and Ireland, and will then make a trip to Norway. - Later they commence a Continental round. Mr. W. J. Heather, of Dunedin, lias Iwn staying with relatives in London and Brighton since he arrived, and has also paid a visit to Paris. Before returning to New Zealand in October-he proposes to tour Scotland and Ireland. Mr. Clement Govett, of New Plymouth, has come to England on account of tho prolonged and serious illness of one of his daughters. Owing to this ho has no settled plans, but ho hopes to be able to return to New Zealand early in November. , Mr. and Mrs. G. T. They are at present touring in the North of Ireland, and will afterwards visit Devonshire, Yorkshire, the Continent, and Scotland. Miss Lily F. Williams, of Christchurch, arrived in' London recently, and will tour in the North of England, and visit Scotland, Wales, and Ireland before returning to London in order to take a course of general nursing at one of the Metro-, polita,n hospitals. i-m.---. Hobson (of Dunedin), intend spending a few monttis in this country, visiting the South of England after the Coronation, and afforwards the Norlh of England and Scotland, and leaving for New Zealand about September. Air Robert; Hell, the proprietor of tlio Ashburton "Mail and Guardian," arrived in London, a few dsys ago, accompanied by his niece, Miss M'Clure, who will return to New Zealand shortly. Mr. Bell hopes to remain in Europe for some months, and will probably go to (ho French Riviera for the winter. Mr. and Mrs. H. Dudley, of Auckland, cai;ie to this country early last autumn, and since then have seen much of the I'nifed Kingdom, Spain, Algeria. Tunis, Morocco, tho Hiviera, and the Rhone Valley. They ore now in London, and will later visit Glasgow and the Trossachs, and take a motor lour through tho south-western counties. Dr. G. E. Gabites, of Tiniaru, who is accompanied by his wife and family, has como to England chiefly for the purposa of post-graduate study at the hospitals of London. Edinburgh, and Vienna, and does not expect to return until September of next year. Among the guests at the launch of the ss. Eemuera, at Dumbarton, wero Mr. and Mrs. A. E. G. New Zealand members of. the Imperial Temperance Conference, held last week nt the Imperial Institute, included Dr. AV. A. Chappie, M.P., Lady Stout, the Rev. E. Raine, Miss Roberts, Mrs. Ostler, Messrs. AV. H. George (Wellington), J. AV. Brown, 11. Hart, G. Fowlds, jun., AV. Cnuglipy, E. Cobb, R. Cobb, and Richard Burgon (New Plymouth). Mr. Walter Johnson, of Christchurch. lalo lion, secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association and of the Canterbury head centre of the Royal Life-saving Society, is in England on six lnonihs' leave of absence, accompanied by Mrs. Johnson. Johnson attended a meeting of the Executive of Hie Royal Lii'e-.'nving Society on Thursday, and gave a resume of the work done in New Zealand, supplementing Ihe report made by Mr. Henry on his recent visit to the Dominion. Mr. James Kirker, general manager of th? South Rritish Insurance Company, and Mr?. Kirknr, left New Zealand in April, and spent three weeks in Monte Video, before coming on to London.
