A letter was received by the Wellington Kugby Kelerees' .Association last evening from the Wellington Kiigby Union asking if it was correct that members of the Kefcrecs Association had refused to sign mutual agreements to act at matches, as Toumh m 10 ' aml if £ ° 0U ~hat . The chairman said that no rule existed in regard to an agreement. That by-law, however, had been thrown out at « special meeting, but it had been revived as time went on. Mr. L. Sievers said there existed onlv an understanding between members tluit they need not sign agreements. Mr. Laws moved that a reply be sent !? J n « Hu ßby Union that it was correct that the association did refuse to sign mutual agreements to act; while'to the second part of the question the answer should be that it was not in tho best interests of the association to sign such an agreement. The aim of members was to Support each other. Some years ngo certain referees had "ruled the roast?" being given the best n.atches week after week. . To prevent this sort of thing the referees had decided not to sign any agreement. He personally would refuse to sign anything referring to mutual agreements. Hβ was quite willing to submit to the ruling of the Appointment Board, but -would not consent to coming "under the thumb" of the clubs. Mr. Fordyce seconded the motion. rhe chairman said that three members of the Referees' Association had met representatives of the Rugby Union, and at that meeting the Appointment Board was constituted. He also pointed out that for years there had been no senior captains on the board.

A. lengthy discussion took place, n. l , sicv<>rs racked as an amendment that the Rugby Union be invited to recc lye a deputation to explain the matter. Ihe amendment was carried, with an addition that three playing captains h« invited also to attend at the deputation. Messrs. Wilson, Sievers, and Connell werfl appointed the deputation to represent the association.
