Ocean Race and Notes. .Tho I'.X.Y.C. will hold an ocean race to Nukuta Bay, l'ovt Underwood, aud back early next month. Thero will be a marked boat in the Bay. which tho yachts will have to round. In length, the 'coui'jo is about 100 miles. Nakuta Bay is situated at tho top of l'ort Underwood. Tho first prize is a hamlsomo silver cup presented by an anonymous donor, and the second and. third prizes will be valuable trophies presented by tho club. It is piobable that a prize will .be given for tho first yacht home. About seven or eight yachts will compete in the race. The Muritai left for tho Sounds early last Sunday morning, and arrived thero at about 12.30 p.m. Tho launches Veronica and Scotia also left for tho Sounds on Saturday, and have arrived at their destination. The points for the Winder Cup (presented to the T.A.S.C. by Mr; G. Winder for competition among the club's-fleet) aro as follow:—Redwing, 59; Lotus, 57; Winifred, 51; lvaitare, 49; Valetn, 40; Nan, 40; and Doreen, 20. Mr. J. M'Lean, an old' Wellington yachtsman, has sold his first-class yacht Waitangi to Mr. Gibbs, of Hataitai. Tho Waitangi will bo fitted with an engine, and will, no doubt, bo seen on Wellington Harbour once more. On account of Mr. Cooke taking to tho bi<; yachts, tho To Aro Sailing Club has lost ono of Us best racing sports. "Fred" was very familiar with the tillers of tho small scows. At present Auckland Graving Dock presents, a busy sceno from n 'yachtsman's point of view. Tho Governor's chartered yacht, Viking, is being thoroughly overhauled and renovated. Tho work, which is nearing completion, is in tho hands of Mr. Chas. ,Bailey, jurir. Tho -'Viking's running gear is all new, nnd her docks have boon recaulkeij nnd pitched. A coat of black paint with a gold streak on the gunwale has been added. Sho is also boing copner sheathed, nnd will probably be ready for tho water at about the end of tho month. It is expected that tho Governor will have hor in commission by the middle of March. •
