THE HUMOUR OF DR. FINDLAY.
', Sir,—Your correspondent "Anti-Hum-bug" has called attention to Dr. Findlay's latest grim , joke, wherein" he, speaks' of the supporters of tho Opposition party as rotting in hell. We heard a great many coarso expressions used -by thi Government - party-in.,Parliament when attacking ; tho. Opposition last. session," such words as blackguard, poison, scandalmonger, ...slanderers, .and even skunk were unfortunately heard; but it was left to that polished politician-to .cap matters and- deliver himself'of-a heavy joke, the best part of which, he said, -was-where the Opposition supporters rotted in hell. Could anything be coarser?' Dr. Findlay must not. .forget..that he,is 'to. be the guest of the peoplo of New- Zealand at the Coronation., ...That the people are generously paying his expenses,; and the supporters of Mr. Massey.are a very largo section of the. people, And, what, .'are. Dr. Findlay's thanks to : these-people ? He cracks a,.joke about their, rotting in hell. So scintillating, so elevating! How ho groaned with that same pain—spoken.'of by "AntirHtimbug"—in the Upper House the other day, where ,he delivered one of the smuggest speeches ever heard, there, on-the wicked behaviour of "some Soliticians" to their opponents, and what oes he say now of his own ? Perhaps, sir, it is left for gentlemen who np r toe into a'.'Ministry to discover these great phrases, and, perhaps, sir,. I am stupid and without a sense of huraour. when I recoil with horror'at the thought of tho many fine men and ivomen who are spoken about'thus'.. Anyway," when ;Dr., Findlay goes to England for. the" title which is -supposed-to await him -there-it will :Ma-„ jc-sty to bestow "the Order, of Knighthood' on so brilliant and,, polished., a. humori ist. —I am; etc., . FAKCE.
