"AN INQUIRY "TO BE HELD. ,: ■ ■ \t By Telegraph—Press Assoc!ation--Copyright. . ■ • Sydney, January 25. ~ ' The State Minister for Works has appointed a committeo of experts to inquire into the running of motor omnibuses and trackless trams in- order to relievo the congested traffic. . ■ Says tho Sydney "Telegraph" of Janu-. ary • 17: —"It was mentioned yesterday the' Minister for Works/had intimated that- he contemplated getting three or four motor omnibuses and trying them on a route which would take in Pyrmonti l .Glebe, and Forest Lodge.-, Mr. Griintn somewhat modified his statement yesterday. Hβ indicated that he had asked the Chief Railway Commissioner-.and tho Lord Mayor to each appoint ,an- ; dfficer to consult with an officer of the.-Works Department with the view of reporting to ■him as to whether motor 'buses or what is kriown as the trackless trams ■should-be tried on the Pyrmont route. - If they decided for the motor 'bus they would be requested to advise .him os to ithe most suitablo kind to obtain. Thc-so railless trams run along the road, the power oomiug from an overhead wire with a flexible connection, so that they, are able to dodge tho traffic. On the question of motor 'buses, Mr. Griffith further pointed, out that it .would be necessary to have big vehicles if tiiey were to pay. The cost of running them would "bo - greater here than in England. In London, for instance, ft boy could be obtained for half-α-crown. a day to collect the fare. Here it would be necessary to "liave a niau working for seven or eight'hours at- Ss., and two sets of men would be required. Small 'buses could not earn the wages to be paid." . ■ ■ :
