OPERA HOUSE AS A "FACTORY."
■ THE HUMOURS OF OUR LAWS, . (From Our Own Correspondent.) ■ Palmerston, January 25 The Palmerston Borough Council has deceived notice from the Labour Department to regiter the Opera House, tho metal pit, and waterworks as factories, but fhs council has declined to comply with the notice, and it is probable a casi will be brought (o test the matter in the S.M. Court. The Labour Department claims, in connection with the Opera House, that the council manufactures electricity for •honing pictures, for which it eells tickets to the public, and 'therefore is retailing the electricity.. Feeling hero '.is .that if the point is not a ridiculous, it is ecrtninly a very nice, not to say intteni- %\>, point. The same line is taken in reference to the gravel pit and the waterworks. .The people pay rates for havine the metal put on tho roads, and also pay rates for the uso of tins water, and therefore both these worts ore "factories."
