S.S. PILOT REFLOATED.
CONTRACTOR'S SUCCESSFUL METHOD. The ferry steamer Tilot was floated. about six p.m. on Saturday evening.' It will be remembered that the little vessel sank at her moorings at the Ferry Wharf about i a.m. oil Friday, January 13. A start was made to refloat her on the following morning by means of pumpingj after all openings had been closed by a, diver. For five days this method was in practice, but, all efforts having failed, the contractor (Mr; C. F. Pulley) dfa:<Jed to adopt other means. Friday was spent in erecting the necei sary gear, such as posts and .windlasses, and wire ropes were passed under the steamer. On Saturday the work of raising the vessel tothe surface of the water was commenced, and, in a .few hours,-her decks were awash. The steam pump was got going again, and soon the Pilot becamo. buoyant. Then the hand-pumpa were resorted to, and the sunken ferry steamer was successfully floated. She looks rather "the worse for wear" now, as she lies at. her original berth, for all her movable deck fittings have disappeared, and the paintwork on the hull is' smeared with mud.
