Simmonds, who was a candidate for St. George's in the East seat at tho election in January, and who recently obtained £5000 damages from tho. '/Daily Chroiycle," has also obtained a verdict.for. £5000 damages against tho newspaper company, "Liberal Opinion," Ltd., tho ground for action being that tho defendant company had issued election leaflets which contained libellous matter. Sir. Justjco Darling, before whom the caso was tried, said ho agreed with tho jury as t-o tho advisability of plaintiffs, in such cases in future, instituting crirninal .proceedings*
