Yesterday -afternoon Mr. Stephens visited the Town: Clerk (Mr. J. R. Palmer) and was! shown by him over the Town Hall. At a meeting held yesterday it waSi decided to entertain tho Prime Minister! (Sir J'. G. Ward) and tho Attorney-! General (tlio Hon. Dr. Findlay) at farewell banquet in view of their ap-j proaching visit to England, to be held! in tlio Concert Chamber of the Town-' Hall on March 2. His Excellency the Governor will be asked to attend, pad' Sir Robert Stout (Chief Justice) has; consented to propose one of the toasts.; His Worship the Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P.) will occupy the chair; and Mr. A. L. Herdman will make one! of the speeches. The banquet will b® entirely non-party. Hamua, which took place on January--19. For a number of years deceased was iii energetic faming pursuits in tho Lower Hutt, being one of 'tho first settlers, in that district. He afterwards purchased land at Hamua,..being one of tjie first to settle in that district; and there he resided. for tho past 23years. "' Mr. Alex.
