ATHENIC ARRIVES AT HOBART. .Cable advice received by.the local-agents of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co. states that tho R.M.S. Athenic, which- left London on December 8, en route for Wellington, via way ports, arrived ,at Hobart at 10 a.m. yesterday. Owing to the largo quantity of general cargo, (650 tons) to bo discharged at tho Tasmanian port, it is probable .that tho .vessel will not be able to .oontinuo her journey until eariy this morning. Consequently, instead of arriving hero on Tuesday afternoon, as scheduled, tho vessel will not make this port until Wednesday. NOTICE TO MARINERS. ' A "ROCKY PATCH" FOUND. During Marchi'l9oß,- Captain Post, of" the Government steamer ■ Tutanekai surveyed a 4-fathom shoal off tho Cheviot coast. This shoal, which bears Kaikoura Peninsula extreme N. 13 degrees E., Amuri Bluif, extreme N. 9 degrees W., and Point Gibson extreme S. 20 degrees W. (all hearings magnetic) was therefore • found to be 2 miles N. 2 1 ) degrces W. of its chartered position, and 3 miles S. 80 degrees E. of.Madena River. ' , On Wednesday tho Marine • Department were advised by telegram that a fisherman named Buskitt had.found a rocky patch, lj miles S.E. of the above shoal, consisting of three pinnacle rocks, ono with 18ft. of water on it, and the others 19ft. and 21ft. of water on them respectively. . Ail tho rocks are clcso together, in an area of 30 square feet, and mariners arc warned* accordingly. . On her trip to the southern lighthouses next week the Government steamer Hinemoa will (it is said) survey the spot. The s.B. Jane Douglas will sail to-day for Hokitika. direct at Ip.m. Mr. J. M'Alpine, second engineer of the Marama, wa-3 obliged to leavo the' vessel at Wellington yesterday owing to illness. . Owing to unforeseen circumstances the departure of the Jane Douglas from Wellington to Hokitika has been postponed until 1 p.m. to-day. On Tuesday next the Government steamer Hinemoa is' to leavo port on her periodi-1 cal visit to tho southern lighthc'ises. She j goes down the East Coast, and returns' 1 via the West Coast. She sailed again at noon. for Nelson, and is scheduled to leave the' latter port for Picton and Wellington at 7 a.m. She should' arrived in port about 7 o'clock this evening.
