FAMINE RELIEF FUND.

PERIOD EXTENDED. Subscriptions to the fund which is being raised by Mr. Yung-liang Hwang (Chinese Consul) for tho relief of sufferers by fainino in the Chinese provinces of Anhui and Northern Kiangsu, are still arriving from Europeans, and aro just beginning to come freely to hand from Chinese residents of New Zealand. The explanation of the latter circumstance lies in. the fact that it has taken some weeks to apprise Chinese residents generally of tho plight of their countrymen in the afflicted provinces. Mr. Hwang has been advised, under the circumstances, to extent the period for which the list is to remain open. Instead of being, closed today, as was intended, it will therefore remain open for about another week. . A number of local residents will" be invited to attend a meeting in the Chinese Consulate about a week hence, to determine the destination of the fund.
