DR. MAWSON'S EXPEDITION.
GOVERNMENT AID SOUGHT. : By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, .January 19.. Sir Ernest Shoekleton has cabled approving Dr. Mnwson's proposed purely Australian Antarctic expedition. Mr. Samuel Hordcrn, of Sydney, has 'donated JSIOOO to the fund, making the total <£6000. Dr. Mawson and Professor Masson interviewed Senator Poarce and asked for Government assistance for tho expedition. They urged its value to Australia in the shape of possible mineral discoveries, and sealing . and fishing enterprises, as well as its scientific importance. . Cabinet Consideration of the request was promised.
