Obit: Mrs, Jane Deans, Canterbury. . The death :is ■announced 'of .Mrs'. l Jane Deans, relict of the late Mr. John Deans, of Riccarton, one of the' original settlers , of the -Canterbury Plains.- The .late Mrs. ;Deans was the eldest daughter of Mr. jJames.'-M'llraith, of Auchendower, Ayrshire.' /She was. married in ' September, 1852, and, with her husband, arrived in Ly ltd ton in the Minerva 'on February ■2, 1853. ■ She shared the privations anil hardships of the pioneer 1 dpys, and, to the last, preserver! all her " faculties.— fress Association. . -tFeilding Notes. .. . 'J. On Thursday last week llrs. Barton gave a very enjoyablp garden party. M *s while'some of the guests ployed tennis and croquet others wandered about the beautiful grounds admiring the flowers ,and foliage. Afternoon tea, ices, and fruit salad were served in the dining- . room and on the verandah which were both prettily decorated.
