:—♦ : AXNUAL BBTTJB-K OF BUSINESS. , A return just completed by the Supreme Court-staff shows the number of persons that were tried by jury in Wellington for different oil'ences during the year ended December 31,- 1910. The figures ami charges are as follow: — Class 1, Felonious and Other Offences Against" the'Person.—Murder, 1 male; attempted murder, 1 male; assault with intent, 1 male; assault and robbery, 2males; assault, 2 males; cruelty to child, .1 female; robbery, 2 males; unnatural offence, 2 males; carnal knowledge, 5 males; indecent assault, 4 males; abortion, 1 female; attempted'unnatural'offence, 1 male; attempted carnal knowledge, 1 male. Class 2, Malicious Injuries and Other Offences Against Property.—Breaking and entering and theft, 8 males; burglary, 4 males; theft on the liigh seas, 1 male; theft, 8 males; falsa pretences, 2 males; breaking into dwelling at'night with Intent to intimidate inmates, l.malo; arson, 1 males. Class 8, Miscellaneous Offences.—False declaration under the Marriage' Act, 1 male; ' distributing obscene matter for public sale, 1 male; forgery and uttering, 3 males; indecent act k 'l male; conspiracy, 2 males;, perjury, 1 male; forgery,* 2 males; .failing to keep usual and proper books of account, 1 male; attempting to procure noxious tiling, 1 male. j CIVIL CASES. On the civil side the following figures give an indication of tho business dealt with during the year:—Writs of summons°s tested, 131; actions commenced under Rules 451 to 456, 11; disposed of by special case, G; discontinuance entered, 10; tried by special jury, 3; tried by a judgo alone, 33; judgment for plaintiff, I''; judgment for defendant, 12; judgment entered after trial, Hi; judgment by confession, i; judgment by default, 37; writs of execution issued, 23. The total amount for which judgments were recorded was .£21,501 lis. 3d. IN DIVORCE. In the Divorce Court, GO petitions were filed for dissolution of marriage, one for judicial separation and three for nullit* of marriage. Decrees were crantod for dissolution in 45 cases, and for nullity of marriage iu 2 cases.
