MAGISTRATE'S COURT

(Before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M.) | THREATENING WORDS. Donald Mathieson was chargcd with using threatening words to James Burrows in a public place, To Aro reclamation, with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. According to the evidence, accused, who had 22 previous convictions against him, was recently employed at Wirth's Circus, but was discharged on Tuesday. The same night he weiu to tha circus tent under tho influence of liquor, and threatened to do for Captain Burrows. In his defence, accused said he had no desiro to create a disturbance, but merely went to get his swag and collect a few shillings owing to him. On account of tho fact that Mathieson had not been before tho Court for some time tho magistrate said ho would tako a lenient view of the offence, and accused was convicted and ordered to come .up for sentence when called upon.

MAINTENANCE. Gordon Aitken was ordered to. contribute 10s. a week towards the support of., his wifo and ss. a week for tho support of his child, who is to remain in the wife's custody. Aitken was also ordered to. pay £2 2s. .costs. Mr. C. R. Dix appeared for complainant and Mr. T. -Young for the defendant.

OTHER CASES. , 1 James Hessey, apnearirig oh remand, was charged with, on January 2, wilfully ; damaging two, glass windows, value-<£lo, the property of George Howe. On the application of Sub-Inspector Nonvod, accused war. further remanded until January 25, bail being allowed as before. Mr. H. P. O'Leary appeared for accuscd. Henry Joseph Clements, for whom Mr. E. J. Pitzgibbon appeared, was charged that on January 14, at Wellington South, he assaulted Vanco Clifford Hickok by striking him on tho head with a bottle, causing him actual bodily harm.' SubInspector Norwood asked for-a' 1 remand until January 25, and this was granted, accuscd being again admitted to bail. An elderly man, named Frederick Rollin, was remanded until January 25 on two charges of indecent assault on young girls.

Charles Joseph Little, chargcd with drunkenness, was deemed to be a habitual inebriate, and was sentenced to a month's imprisonment. One first-offending inebriate, who did not appear, was ordered to forfeit his bail of 10s. or undergo 18 hours' imprisonment.
