TERRITORIAL FORCE.

RIFLE BATTALION AT KARORI. INSPECTION BY LIEUT.-COLONEL CHAYTOR. ' Morning and evening parades at the Rille Battalion's encampment on the Karori Recreation Ground are being very well attended. In preparation for the field manoeuvres which arc to bo carried out on Saturday and Monday next, the various companies are being well drilled in elementary work. Yesterday, tho battalion was put through some useful ex-, ereises in open order. The work will progress by easy stages to more complicated manoeuvres, and the manner in which the tactical exercise is carried out at the end of the week will be a comprehensive demonstration of the quality of- the mid-week training. Last evening the camp was visited by Licut.-Colonel E. W.'Ci Chaytor, Officer Commanding the District; Licut.-Colou?l J. R. Purdy, Principal Medical Officer; and Captain S. V. Trask, District. Adjutant. After inspection, the battalion was drawn up, and Lieut.-Colonel Chaytor complimented all ranks on'the excellent appearance of the camp, and the progress made by tho various companies m their work. A Company (City Rifles) was singled out for special mention for the neat and orderly condition of its lines. In conclusion, Licut.-Colonel Chaytor hoped that the battalion, which had made such r.n auspicious beginning, would excel itself on the occasion of the Commandant's inspection' on Monday Liout.-Colonel Chaytor then presented Drum-Major- Armstrong, of the Garrison Band; with the twelve years' service medal, and thanked him for his services. On Sunday next the Officer Commanding the District will present Lieut.-Colonel W. G. Duthie, Officer Commanding tho Battalion, with the 12 years', 16 years', and 20' years' service medals.

Lieut.-Colonel Purdy, principal medical officer, is particularly well pleased with tho general conditions of the camp. "It i$ tho best I have ever seen," ho remarked to a representative of The Dominion last evening. The health of all concerned has been excellent. There have been various minor casualties, of course, /such as occur anywhere. During a game of "tow-ball" in camp yesterday Private Pinckney, of H Company (the Highlanders), butted his head into someone else's with such force that lie sustained a slight concussion and complete lapso of memory. He was taken home in tho ambulance. Another Territorial, Private Grimm, E. Company (the Post and- Telegraph Rifles), who suffers from a weak heart, found the strain of camp life too severe, and had to bo taken home last evening in a state of • collapse. ; MILITARY COLLEGE CADETS. FURTHER NOMINATIONS.' In addition to the "Wellington candidates who have entered for the entrance examination for the Commonwealth Military College—their names were announced in yesterday's Dominion—the following candidates have Iwen nominated by the officers commanding the military districts of Canterbury and Nelson and Otagoi— Canterbury and Nelsop—-D. Bryan, Wcstnort; S. L. Paterson, G. Carrington, E. Quiver,. W. J. Jennings, and R. Miles (Canterbury). Otago—R. W. Newman. The Auckland returns are still to-come. STi ANNE'S CADETS AT SEATOUN. A SUCCESSFUL WEEK. St. Anne's Defenco Cadets, who' have been under canvas for their annual training during tho last week, were inspected oir Monday evening by Lieutenant-Colonel Chaytor. After inspection, tho boys were put through company and skirmishing practico by their officers. At the close of the operations, Colonel Chaytor briefly addressed the boys, giving them some encouragement and many kindly, hintsBugler Christenson, who was injured last week at tho Seatoun fire, is now doing well. After parade, the company accorded a vote of sympathy to Sirs. .Christenscn, whose sistev died at Mristerton on Sunday. During the week Divine service has been held in a special marquee every ;morning,-Father Herring being.the chaplain. Captain R. E. Martin and his. two officers, Lieutenant Hornig and Lieutenant Clementson,. havo had rather a stronuous timo of it. Captain Martin has acted as instructor during the week, no staff instructor.being, Captain Martin and his officers desiro to thank tho Sisters at Seatoun for their kindness to their Bugler, and also to other Seatoun residents who so readily came to their assistance when he (the bugler) was injured. Tho tents will bo struck to-day. and the boys will then return to their homes. '
