WHEN FISH WERE SCARCE.
A CHAUFFEUR'S BANKRUPTCY. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Georgo Fernandos, chauffeur, of Wellington, was held beforo tho Official Assignee (Mr. A. jitiiupson) yesterday. About half a dozen creditors wero present, either in person, or represented by counsel, Mr. Dix appeared on behalf of tho bankrupt; Mr. Grundy watched the proceedings on behalf of one of tho creditors. In the course of a lengthy statement, the bankrupt explained that from 190G to 1903 ho had traded as a fish dealer in Napier, but tho extreme scarcity of fish made things very difficult, and ho finally closed up shop with a loss of .£153, dis"posed <)f his assets, distributed'something among the creditors, and reserving tho balanco to provide the necessaries of life for himself' and family. Subsequently he became a chaufTcur, and hoped to have got on all right, but hto accidents which occurred when ho employed drivers cost him respectively £il and .£'2o. Ho had no oiler to make to his creditors. Tho unsecured claims in the estate totalled J525-1 14s. Ud. . , Tho solo, assets wero book debts, estimated to producc .£4O, but capable, in the Assicnee's opinion, of prbdueirig 'only. ' Tho principal creditors were Jl.lgnus Sanderson,. <£20 10s.; Inglie Bros., .£66 4s; 9d.; Mrs. Guthrie, ,£2O. The Assignee remarked that tho bankrupt appeared to have been quite straightforward about his affairs, and it was unanimously resolved not to oppose tho application for discharge. - The meeting then adjourned sine die.
