9 FLOODS IN VICTORIA'. • By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, January 17. Floods in tho Bairnsdalo district de- | stroyed a large area of crops. Tho damage is estimated at <£10,000. The Avon Eiver at Stratford is in high flood. The lowlands are submerged. Many sheep have been drowned. Hundreds of others ore cooped up on small islands, and if there is a further rise of the river they will bo lost. A tunnel in a mino shaft is flooded, causing serious damage. 1 HEAVY BAINS IN MELBOURNE. (Rec. January 18, 0.55 a.m.) Melbourne, January 17. Further heavy rain has fallen in Mclburrie. Many shops are flooded, and street traffic is impeded. A serious landslide has occurred on tlie AValhalla Railway lino. A SEVERE GALE. Sydney, January 17. Tho steamer Hymettus met the full force of tho gale. It took her four r.ml a half days to battle through from Melbourne. Her coal gavo out, and she was compelled to burn fittings. ■ Numbers of horses and cattle were drowned during the flood on the south
