A MAI'OR'S DIFFICULTY. (By Telezraph.—Press Association,) Auckland, January 17. In consequence of the disqualification section of the new Act, Messrs. H. D. Heather, one of the representatives ot' shipping and the payers of dues in the Auckland Hnrbonr Board, and Mr. J. B. MueFarlaue, the representative of the Chamber'of Commerce on the samo body, tendered their resignations to the board to-day. .Mr. Heather is a director of John", Chambers and Son, Ltd., a com-' paiiy that is doing business with the board, and he is also a director of two other companies which might at anj time do business v.-ith the board. Jlr. MacFarlane is a director of the Nevi Zealand Portland Cement. Company, which also does business with the board, The Mayor of Auckland (Mr. L. J. Bagnail) stated this evening that he had been plac-ed in a disagreeable position by the new. Act; being a director of the ftew Zealand Insurance Company, wit!> which the City Council- had ' only a few months ago arranged a contract. It became necessary either for him to sign from tho Mayoralty, or for the contract to be cancellcd. t The loss of an important contract was a serious matter, to the company, but he had been assured' that he would rather relinquish it thap' that, he should be compelled to give ui his office..
