Tli» Hon. R. M'Kenzie is expected back in Wellington from the South Island this morning. The Hon. Br. Findlay will probably arrive here on Friday next. The Prime Minister will Teturn from tho south on Thursday. Tho Hon. T.. Mackenzie lias been spending a couple of days at the Hutt. , / The Hons. .T. Carroll, A. T. Ngata,- D. Buddo,..and J. A. Millar.are in the city, at present. Dr. J. M. Bell, director of Geological Survey, who .is at present in Waihi, has been elected president of the Australasian Institute of Mining Engineers for 1911, in succession to Captain G. A. Bicliards, general manager of Mount Morgan, who is attending the annual meeting which opens in Auckland on January 30. —Press Association. Mr.G. B. Dall, Inspector of Post Offices, is at present inspecting the offices of the Waikato district. Captain Makgill Maitland, A.D.C., has returned from a fishing excursion to Lake Taupo. He enjoyed excellent sport, landing, amongst others, a fine fourteenpoundev. Among, those at present .fishing the Tongariro lliver (Lake . Baron and Baroness de Bethune, of Belgium, Were passengers by the Maheno, which arrived in Auckland from Sydney on Sunday. They intend touring NewZealand. Mr. R. Hollis, a member of the New South Wales Legislature Assembly, a> rived in Auckland by the Maheno from Sydney on Sunday for tho purpose of organising tho New Zealand Enginedrivers' and Firemen and Cleaners' Association. At' n gathering in the Concert Chambar of tho Town Hall last evening tho Rev. G. 11. Mann, oii behalf of tho delegates attending the Primitive Methodist Conference presented the Rev. S. Henderson, ex-president, with a hand-somely-bound Bible. The gift was accompanied by hearty expressions of esteem and goodwill. Mr. Henderson suitably acknowledged the gift. Tho conclusion of his remarks was the signal for an ovation of applause from tho audience. . Dr. G. P. Clark, ex-member for Caith-ness-shire in the House of Commons, arrived in Auckland by the Maheno-from Sydney on Sunday, on his fourth visit to New Zealand, having last been here eight years ago. Ho is accompanied by his .wife, and acting under medical advice received in London proceeds to Rotorua in tho course of a few days for the purpose of taking the baths there. Sub-Inspector Green, who has been in charge of tho Tiniaru Police Station for tho past five years, and who is being retired on superannuation, told a "Herald" reporter that, as bo was only 61 years of age, ho found it difficult to understand tho Department's attitude. He felt quito as fit unci as well now as lie did 10 or 20 years ago, and, moreover, if-ho had beenallowed to remain ill the service for the other four years he would have been entitled to'receive the full benefit'of' the' superannuation scheme. As it was, ho would be deprived of about ,£27 a year. Ho had seen 3G years' service, having joined tho forco as a constable in Dunedin ill 1874. He had had many experiences of a varied nature on the dtago goldfields, where as a mounted constable ho. had to do a lot of work and undergo hardships the like' of which seldom fell to the lot of the ordinary polico officer nowadays. At the annual meeting of the Canterbury Employers' Association at Christchurch yesterday, presentations were made to Mr. 11. Broadhead, who is retiring from the secretaryship of tho association to return' to Wellington. The president of tho association, aud leading members, spoke in high appreciation of tho services rendered by Mr. Broadhead, not only to the association in Canterbury, but also to employers throughout the , Dominion,—l'ress Association.
