POHANGINA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The fortnightly mating of the Pohnngiua County Council w-as held on Saturday. Present: Councillors R. W. Browne (chairman), Burne, Wagstaff, Howie, Port, Eglinton, and Smith. Correspondence was lead from the solicitor of the Counties Association, enclosing an opinion with ; reference 'to streets; from D. H. Guthrie, H.P., with a reply from the Crown Lands Department, as to' vesting the site on which the county offices stood in the County Council, and suggesting tho exchange of another site for the post- office; from P. L. Jackson, requesting that repairs ho made -to the Opawa Road. In connection . with a letter from tho Palmerston Hospital Board, in reference to raising funds for the'proposed purchaso of radium for use iu tho hospital, it was dccidod to defer action,until more information had .been, received. • . Mr.' P.' Arton was granted a renewal of. his lease of an abandoned road. Tho report of tho engineer regarding work done during the past, month was read.' Ho made recommendations as to works to he carried out. Tho treasurer's report was also read and adopted. Outstanding rates at date amounted to .£512 Bs., and legal proceedings were heing instituted for their recovery. Tho engineer was instructed to make thrco passing places for vehicles on tho Main Valley Road, near Cameron's track. It was decided to invito applications for the position of engineer, at a salarv of £250 per annum,
