RACING SEASON COMMENCES. The southerly, breeze which prevailed on Saturday, afternoon, enabled the yachts and small "fry" engaged on the harbour .to. carry full sail. At 2.45 p.m. there.were quite a largo number of yachts and launches out cruising, and they presented quite a pretty sight, as tney glided here and'there. Races- were got off by i tho Port Nicholson Yacht -Cluh, the. Motor Boat Club, and tho To Aro Sailing Club. .All. the events were well .contested except, tho third-blass : yacht race, for whicn only one yaht put in an appearance. '. Launch Race. . A launch. race-'was got off under the auspices- of tho Port Nicholson Motor Boat Club. Tho... weather suited the launches, there being hardly a ripple oa tho water. ' Te Aro Sailing Club. ■The Te Aro Sailing Cliib held a race for Mr. C. -Ward's; trophy. The Winifred got away with' a good load, which she held till near the; ond of the race, but was than overtaken by Kaitare and Redwing. Tho event ultimately resulted (u very close finishes, Kaitare securjng first place, with Redwing second and Winifred third.' The Cuhvulla was at tho post, and Mr. Marks, her owner, was prepared to sail her. Ho now Tefuses to contest tho race, and is returning to Sydney.
