A circular accompanying the Boilermakers' Society's'ballot paper shows a balance on the general fund of £6720. It adds that it is. clear that whatever the result of the lock-out,: the benefit payments cannot be continued. . WELSH MINING UNREST. (Rec. November 2, 9.30 p.m.) • London, November 2. The South Wales colliery strikers are marching from' pit to pit to persuade the! workers to join the strike ■_ ■ They , have received a mixed reception at several collieries. The strikers also demand the holding of a conference to consider the question of a general strike. A FRENCH APPEAL. ' ;' . (Rec. November 2, 10.25 p.m.) ',■■..'. Paris, November 2. Tho ra'ilway strikers have appealed to the British trade unions for aid. Mr. Appleton, president; of _ the General Federation of Trades Unions, has replied that tho British need all their available resources, and that it will be extremely difficult to. secure subscriptions. ARRESTS IN CHICAGO. (Rec. November 2, 11.5 p.m.) New York, November 2. Mounted policemen at Chicago charged mobs of the garment-makers who are on strike, and made numerous arrests, their prisoners including many society women who had aided the strikers. The ladies were released when thoir identity was discovered. THE NEW YORK STRIKE. New York, Novomber 1. Further sharp conflicts between the expressmen on strike and the police have taken place. .' ■ HAT-MAKERS ON STRIKE. (Rec. November 2, 10 p.m.) Adelaide, November 2. Over fifty straw hat-makers employed by the Good and Durant Company have struck over the dismissal of one of the employees named Brookes, and the firm's determination to stand by two gifls who refuse to join tho union. NEWCASTLE STRIKE ENDED. Sydney, November-2. The coal-trimmers', strike at Newcastle has been settled. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN DISPUTE. (Rcc. November 2, 10 p;m.) Adelaide, November 2. All the moulders and boilermalsers employed by the Martin Company at Gawlor have been locked out, and only tho office and stores staff kept on. The various unions affected are meeting, with a view to forming a general committee to tako charge of affairs.
