THE GAMING BILL.

FEOM ,A, ■ TROTTING VIEW-POINT. -' One■ proposal, of the Gaming Bill, is Mewed, .with some, apprehension by Mr. John ! Eowe, of Onehunga, who is president of the. New Zealand Trotting Conference. He -is strongly opposed to the number of' permits being reduced, becauso ho argues that once they are reduced, it will be difficult to increase them; oven although-the increase of the population .warrants it. As far as trotting, is concerned, he says, the number of.permits is not excessive, being only eight for the' North Island. Neither are the number of days of trotting.' In the Auckland province they number seventeen per .annum.. If it is necessary to reduce the number of days of racing, Mr. Eowo considers, this should.be done without reducing the number of permits.
