Replying in • the , House of Representatives to a question whether the Government was prepared to introduce a Bill fixing a minimum wage for the adult employees of the Commonwealth at eight shillings a day, the' Minister for Home Affairs, Mr. King O'Malley, said the payment of such a wage would in many cases be oxcessive and out 'of proportion, to the 6orvices rendered. •
Tho.Government must regard l its responsibilities in ■ other, directions. before involving the Commonwealth in an additional expenditure, of .£60,000 annually.
