lhe Kaiapoi Reserve Bill,, which has oeen introduced by the Hon. J. Carroll, provides that actions . in which, the cause of action depends on the invalidity of .wills disposing of laud in Hie Kaiapoi Reserve shall be stayed, iho Governor-in-Council may appoint 'a commission to inquire into such wills, and subsequent dealings . with lands "afrected thereby. RAILWAY SERVANTS.
Complaint .was mado by Mr. T. E. Taylor yesterday- that-railway servants employed in ascertain grade were taken , and: employed for weeks 'and ; months together, in shunting, ..without receiving tho higher rate of wages that thart work should carry.. ■ Mr.' Taylor submitted that while it--might be necessary'occasionally to; employ' men at. inpre" highlypaid work than they were actually paid tor,. this 'should ' not' be continued over any jxiriod without the ' men receiving '. the jhigher rate. .'Mr. Taylor' -also, urged- that railwaymen: should bo allowed..to .take a reasonable part in public life,'that, they' should" have air absolute/righ',s .to annual, .leave,' and that surfaoomDn should, have a weekly half-holiday:; j;: ,; ' ; ;' ■"\ . , ; '•.■"
