' ■,PRECAUTIONS IN ENGLAND. The; report of the Departmental Committee;'; appointed by the English Board of: Agriculture to inquire into • epizootic abortion, in cattle has been issued as a Blue -Book.. The witnesses examined without exception expressed the opinio that epizootic abortion is : a widespread .disease in the country, and! nearly all of them placed a. very high.estimate on the loss causes to. those, "who : am engaged • in' icattle-breeding and: dairying. Having explained the nature of the disease;, the report says it is constantly being spread: to-new 'herds by the . sale , of infected' cows. . The committee recommend that,, as a preliminary measure, epizootic, aborti6ii?in- cattle should be dealt nith under; an"'Ordeivof tie .Board of Agriculture and Fisheries/requiring— • .i._Cbmpulsory : notification, of suspected cases of the disease. . ; . 2. Veterinary ' inquiry to establish the . existence of disease on any particular . •."■ premises. ~;. ,' > 3. Temporary,'isolation and: restrictions : on . the movement of any coir that has •recently aborted. •; .The' rcomuiittee 'consider. that in the event o£ effect being given to these recommendations,' such, measures: as may be thought necessary . should be taken to avert vthe possible- introduction of infection, in cows imported into Great Britain from/Ireland, .the' Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man. '
