The courts have, been carefully regrassed and are in first-class condition, although ; owing to the recent rain, they wcro a little heavy on Saturday. The prospects of the club are bright and : the train has been laid-for an enjoyable season of tennis. ORIENTAL CLUB. In . glorious- weather the "Oriental Club's new,courts at Clyde Quay were formally opened on Saturday last by tho club's president, the Hon. J. 'A. Millar. After a pithy speech to a large attendance of players and visitors, in which', lie outlined the club's progress from its inception last year, tho president opened the season by demonstrat-ing.in a single with Miss Buchan, that he, has in his time wielded, a good racket. A'string, band and afternoon tea, dispensed, by a bevy of lady members, added much to the general enjoyment.. . This club-is evidently composed of very keen players, no fewer than threo teams having been entered for the coming' season's competitions. ' During the afternoon,. Mr. 1). M'Laren, M.l\ (vicc-prosidcnt), and Mrs. M'Laren visited the courts.
