ON THE MOUNDS.

SPORT WITH THE RiFLE. WEEK-END COMPETITIONS, Fine weather again favoured looal riflemen for the woek-end shooting competitions at Trentham and other ranges. There was a ..big., muster at Trentham, and the target accommodation was.rather over-taxed, several men in one or, two of; the,-companies being unable -to complete their 1 rounds. ■ It is pi'obable, however, that all would have been well had the volunteer special train made a clear run right through .to Trentham, as. is usually the case. On Saturday the train was stopped at certain, stations en route, arriving at Trentham Defence Siding 20 minutes behind time,; a;. serious loss to the marksmen, who have all .they can. do to complete their .firing within the v ordinary time-limit. Criticism of the train arrangements on. this occasion Were'frequent and painful, and free, and the hope was universally expressed that "this sort of thing would mot oocut again."

• A small party of ladies visited the range under the escort: of the officers. Two of the party, Mrs. Matheebn . and Miss Gibbs,' engaged in a seven-shot match at 500 and 600 yards, the result being a tfin for the former by 62 (30— .32) to 56 (27—29). As will be .seen from the detailed • scores which are appended, some good scores were put up. ' The following are . the- results of the various competitions at Trentham. 'and . elsewhere:—. ■ '', .
