He is not obliged to work, tat if ho likes to volunteer, ho may be generally given some light.employment. A fine now school of modern. • design., recently erected by the. Wellington Education Board at Wadkanae, wns ! opened, yesterday on behalf of the board by Mr. A. W. Hogg, M.P. Besides the headmaster (Mr. C. Duncan) and Mr. Silvsster (representing ' the committee) there was a considerable number of parents and children, present. .The school is strongly built,; and comprises Two largo rooms with a wide central hall. One of the rooms contained a fine exhibition of cut flowers, and the other was embellished with works of art and a unique display of ■well-esccnted drawings in chalk and charcoal, ami most creditable specimens of penmanship.
