POWELKA.

Sir, —There are always two sides to every question, and I have been expecting that some abler pen than mine would take the unpopular side in this matter. My opinion is that Powelka has not been sentenced to a day's longer imprisonment than he richly deserves. He committed an extraordinary number of crimes in record time. Though he was found not guilty of murder, yet as lie carried loaded revolvers with him it is obvious that he was prepared to commit murder at any tirte to avoid arrest, and lastly he was the cause of Jlaguire's death; that is to say that Jlaguire would be alive now had Powelka not been a criminal.— I am, etc., OBSERVER. June 28.
