THE KNYVETT CASE.
MEETING AT CHRISTCHUKCH. (By Telejrraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, June 30. A meeting in connection with the Kny« vett case was held to-night. There was an attendance of about 250. Tho Mayor of Christchurch presided. Addresses were given by members of the Knyvett Defence Committee, setting forth the facts of the case, and the following resolution was carried unanimously"That this meeting of citizens of Christchurch is of opinion that Captain Knyvett was unjustly and harshly treated, and that Parliament should be asked to bring in the legislation necessary for tho remission of his case, and to give all military men in peace time the right to appeal to a competent board of inquiry." it was also decided that all military prosecutions during peace time should bo relegated to civil courts of inquiry, instead _of military courts, on the ground that military courts are purely amateur tribunals.
The chair at tho Wellington meeting on Monday night will be occupied by Mr. J. P. Luke, M.P. The speakers will include Messrs. C. H. Poole, M.P., T. E. Taylor, M.P., I). M'Laren, M.P., G. Peacock, and A. J. Black. Ladies are specially invited.
