[Sir Eobt. Kyffin Thomas, who attended the Imperial Press Conference last year, and was knighted early this year, was the grandson of the founder of the "South Australian Register," and was the proprietor of that and associated newspapers. He was born in August, 1851, at Nailsworth, South Australia, and received his education at the Adelaide Educational Institution. Ho joined the staff of the "Register," and was for some years chief of the reporting staff, and afterwards acted as editor, of the "Observer." He had held a number of public offices, having been president of the Royal Geographical Bociety in the colony, president of the Adelaide Chamber of Commerce, and member of the committee for raising troops for the South African War. He married, in 1876, Amelia, daughter of the late Mr. R, G. Bowen.]
