MANGAHAO RIVER POWER. IBy TelcEraDh.—SDccial CorrenDondenU Palmerston, May 2. At tho Police Court to-day a man named William Anderson was sentenced to three days' imprisonment for using obscene language. He was also sentenced to fourteen days' hard labour for an unprovoked assault on Walter Cotton, of Palmerston. Evidence was given to the effect that Cotton was driving into his yard when ho found Anderson lying "across the roadway. On requesting him to leave, the latter turned on Cotton, and struck some very severe Wows. Cotton consequently had the man arrested. I , our Chinamen were convicted of unlawfully cutting supplejacks on the property of C. J. Monro, at i'itzherhert West. Mr. Monro explained that he was trying to preserve the piece of bush near his residence,, and only desired to make it known that people must not destroy tho bush. A fine of ss. each was imposed. The borough engineer (Mr. S. Jickell) was engaged several days last week surveying the hills on the Pahiatiia side of the Tararuns with a view of ascertaining if it were feasible to get a water supply from the Mangahao River (by tunnelling the hills) for supplementing the Palinerston water supply and providing electric power for the town. The work was undertaken at the instance of Councillor Stubbs. Mr. Jickell has sufficient data now to enable him to report to the council at to-morrow night's meeting: At the -Police Court to-day Messrs.
