SEQUEL TO AMALGAMATION.

QUESTION OF ACCOUNTS.

Among the correspondence dealt with at last night's meeting of the Karori Council -was a communication from the •Wellington City Council with reference to the commission set up by the Government to adjust matters between their council and the City Council, with respect to the amalgamation of certain portions- of the Karori Borough with the city of Wellington. . | The City Council asked'for copies of all resolutions' passed: by the Karori Council dealing with the special loans Nos. 1 to 5 on the Karori \Borough balance-sheet; balance-sheets of the Karori Council for the last.five years; statement showing separately how much ivas spent on. street .widening, and how much on tramways,in connection with loans Nos. 1 to 5; also asking whether loans 1 to 3 were expended in connection with the tunnel and adjacent roadways; if not, in what other manner they were expended. They considered they were' entitled to a share in all the general property in the Karori Borough, including the Council Chambers, and asking for the amount at which the borough properties were valued at the time of the severance. The council contended that practically tho whole of the maintenance of the tunnel should be .thrown pn the Karori •Borough, and if this matter could not be dealt with by the present commission, they would,probably apply for a commission to be set up under the Public Works Act, to deal with same. It was quite possible that an agreement could be come to on the main items before tho commission resumed, and with that object the cduncil asked that the Karori Borough be .good enough to submit within, say ten days, in detail, any proposals the Karori Council _ intended to lay before the commission, with a view to settlement of the matters in dispute, Tho Mayor said : ho thought it better to set up a small committee of two, and refer the matter to them. It was going to be purely a question of facts, and figures between the solicitors on both sides, with the magistrate as referee.

It was resolved, on the motion of Councillor Raire, that a committee, consisting of the Mayor and Councillor Wedde, be set up to go into the matter, and that the'letter be referred to them for their consideration.
