FUNDS FOR CAPTAIN SCOTT'S ■ . EXPEDITION. By Teletrraph—Frees Association—CopyrlehL London, March 21. Captain Scott is grateful for New Zealand's contribution of £1000 towards the cost of his' South Polar expedition. He proposes to obtain a considerable portion of his stores in Now Zealand. : [Captain Scott, set out to raise a sum of £40,000 for -tfho expedition. Ho had, on February 12, reached £32,000, of ; which £20,000 is represented by a Government grant. He will set out in June next in the Terra Nova, the largest whaler afloat, which is now being prepared in London docks for her voyage. > Captain Scott has interested tho public schools in providing tihe dogs and sledges, each dog or sledge being called after the school, and already the idea has been readily taken up. Tho members of tho expedition will number 55, among whom, there will 'bo two biologists, three, geologists, and two or three physicists to. specially investigate the meteorological problem.] ■ . .;' (Rec. Mr. Thomson was the first Rhodes .scholar who went to Oxford from New Zealand; He proceeds to Sydney to confer with Professor David and after'wards goes to, New Zealand to join the' Terra .Nova. ■ ' . ■; • '• [Mr. Thomson'is a son of Mr. G.
