KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A SATISFACTORY BALANCE. : The fortnightly meeting of- the Karpri Borougli Council was held. test evening. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. Dascnfc), Councillors Raiue, Wa'lmsley, Standeii, Welling, Hildrcth, and Wcddc. The engineer reported that tho work on Bell's Quarry slip had been completed, and the danger to traffic had been averted for tho present. The cost of 'removing tho spoil was £40.. From April 1 he proposed, with tho council's permission, to do all street maintenance and repairs with a gang sufficient to cope with tho work as occasion may require, and to carry out any improvements or alterations to tho streets that may suggest themselves, and are approved of by tlio council. About 200 concrete blocks have been mado since this work was resumed. The contract for the supply and erection of stone-crushing plant has been let to D. Robertson and Co., at £679 12s. They expected to start with the erection .as soon. as. the crusher arriyed from Melbourne. Tho city electrical engineers did not think that the cost of the erection of storage sections for the tramway extension would justify the carrying-out of the work. The report was adopted Tho Lancaster Land Company, Limited, wrote stating that tho board had decided to proceed at ■ once with tho construction of Briggs Street, Tringham Street, and Stout Street. The report of the Works Committee respecting, the. Evelyn. Estate was adopted. Under it Mr. T.. Ward will lodge with Levin and Co. the sum of £400 (increased to, £454) for the dedication and completion of all streets, with ( the. proviso that Section 51, 52, 53, and 56 be transferred to the council. The financial statement of the borough to date—the financial year ended on March 31—showed a credit balance of £150. Tho Mayor remarked that tho council, was better off now than it had been for years. The clerk (Mr. W. F.
