' The preliminary report regarding tho .Vital statistics of New South' Wales for 1909 show that tho population at tho end of last year was 1,645,444, an increase of 40,535. ' Marriages numbered 13,048, or 8.03 per thousand, the highest record for 22 years. Births totalled 43,769, or 26.91 per thousand. Deaths numbered 9.75 per thousand, the lowest rato on record, and 9 per cent, below the mean record of the past ten years.
