COMMITTEE MEETINGS
The Ground Committee of tho Wairarapa and: East Coast Pastoral and I Agricultural; Society: met at Carterton on . Friday, and inspected tho improvements carried out by the caretaker since tho .'recent'.show. Further ira'provemeiits . were authorised., An ap-. plication , from the Wairarapa liugby Union and the Carterton Hockey Club . for, permission - to, use the grounds for matches, was-received, and .-referred .to the.: General -Committee, with a recommendation to enter into the same conditions with" each institution as last season. The Besses o' tli ! Barn Band were granted permission to use the grounds for an entertainment at a, fee of £3 3s. .
.: A' meeting of the General Committee was held subsequently, Mr;-'. E. Eagle, vice-president, presiding. It was' decided to: hold the annnal iiieeting oh Thursday, April 28; The incoming committee were recoinmended to consider the question of holding a stock-sale, at the .next show, which- proposal-it was considered would bo in the interests of the farmer's'and the district. At a well-attended .meeting to-day,' and as the outcome of , a'meeting held three weeks ago,-and a vigorous canvas since made, it -wm- unanimously resolved:— "That a co-operative limited. liability company be formed with the object of : erecting a central butter factory at Ashburton, -and creameries wherever sufficient inducement offers. The capital of the company, was fixed at -£5000, and Mr. Hugo Friedlander was elected chairman of the provisional directorate. Between 1300 and 1400 oows have been; guaranteed for the first year with-substantial increases for. the second and third years.

The New Zealand Farmers' Dairy Union has paid out for the month of February '.£6255 lis. 3d. for milk for butter-making and ,£B2O 19s. for milk for cheese-mak-ing, being at the rate of 10-kl. per "lb. of butter-fat for both purposes. Durins the current month the rates for butterfat will be lid! per lb. for butter-making, and lljd. for cheese-making.
In consequence of the halfpenny per lb. rise in bacon, it has been decided to defer the festablishment of the proposed 'oacon factory at Feildin?.
