In connection with the suicide of the old man Thomas Harwood, who jumped from the Town Budge into the river on Friday night, it appears that two bandsmen, who were crossing the bridge, were startled by _ hearing a splash, and- almost immediately, came upon a pipe, tobacco, a knife, and, a letter lying o<n the. floor ; of the bridge. The bandsmen immediately oommunicated with the police who were/ however, unable to discover anything further. The letter is addressed to Mrs. George Prince, Westmere, care of the police. The letter was signed "Thomas Harwood" and indicates that the writer had premeditated suicide. "Hie missing man is an old age pensioner' who ' has been in poor! health for : some considerable time. The body has not'yet been discovered'nor has any trace been found of the missing young woman, Miss Sutton.
