DUNEDIN TRAMWAYS, PAYING NINE PER CENT. Dunedin, March 17. The Dunedin Electric Tramwayß for the year ended March 2, show receipts to have been ,£65,799, and working es.pensea .£36,401. The profit amounted to .£29,398, giving a return of 9 per cent, on the capital expenditure of .£300,000. The revenue shows an increase of .£2522 over the previous year, while the mileage rnn shows an increase of 7798 miles. The total number of passengers carried was 11,380,472. This was the most successful year since the inauguration of the service. . THE BOWRON CASE. . TO BE MOVED TO APPEAL COURT. Christchurch, March 17. In connection with the application for a writ of prohibition restraining Mr: H. W. Bishop, S.M., from adjudicating upon any or all of the informations laid by Wm. M. Tyers, inspecting accountant of tie Income-tax Department against Bowron Bros., of Christchurch, it is understood that, by consent of the _ parties, the application will be moved into the Court of Appeal, which opens its sittings at Wellington on April 4.

TOHUNGAISM. Wanganui, March 17. The SupTeme Court was occupied today with a case of alleged fohungaism against a Maori named Paku and his wife, who were found guilty .on all counts, and remanded to Saturday for sentence. TATTERSALL'S SWEEP CASE, 1 Auckland, 'March 17. Detectives arrested Harold Pennell, charged with failing to account to his alleged partners, Harman and Bowman, for money claimed by them in respect of a successful ticket in Tattersall'B sweep, the three tickets having been taken in Pennell's name. The amount involved in this case is J3771 9s. 3d. In tho Police Court this morning Pennell was remanded to appear at Waihi on March 23 with Kneebone, .who was previously committed.' Bail was allowed— self in .£250 and another surety of .£250. A "FIERY" DOG.

Gisborne, March 17. The Supreme Court to-day was occupied in hearing the claim of Field versusThompson, for a sum of £175 damages, alleged' to have been sustained by . an attack of defendant's (log on plaintiff's daughter. The defendant sought to show that the plaintiff's children had encouraged the dog to stay at their home, and had also provoked the animal. Considerable evidence was advanced showing the fiery disposition of the dog, and the jury awarded plaintiff £60 damages, the defendant al6o being called upon to pay .49 medical expenses and court costs.

RELIABILITY TRIAL. Christchurch, March 17. The Canterbury Automobile Associa-. tion's annual reliability trial was held to-day, from Christchurch to Akaroa and back, a distance of 113 miles. On the subject of the withdrawal of the ninepenny grant to school committees, the Education Board .resolved, on Mr; Mitchell's motion: "This board cannot refrain from expressing regret that the Minister should perpetuate the injustice of giving general application to a particular isolated instance, and assures the Minister that the board, ratler than .curtail the allowance .to committees, has given full effect to the desire of the Department and relieved them of previous financial responsibilities." LARGE HOUSE BURNT. Hastings, March 17. A thirteen-roomed house, owned and occupied by Mrs. E. Bamforth,. was totally destroyed by fire yesterday after, noon. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. Mrs. Bamforth was absent in Wellington, and the remainder of the family were away, at the time of the outbreak. A quantity of furniture was saved. The insurances are: Building, £250 in the National; furniture, £200 in the Alliance.
