ENTERTAINMENTS.

THEATRE ROYAL. Puller's Vaudeville Company is attracting large audiences nightly to tlio Theatro Royal, where a really capital shoe is being given. Those who have not seen Deane's Marionettes perform on their own little stage should certainly not miss the chance. It is one of the quaintest and most finished performances of the kind ever seen in Wellington. Tho company includes a genuine comedian in the person of Ward Lear, whom to see is to laugh. Charles Throsby is a clever entertainer, and good turns avo furnished by Raleigh, Beattie M'Donaltl, Gertie Johns, and Miss Maud Hewson, a Tefined contralto.

THE ROYAL PICTURES.' The pick of the dramatic pictures that, are included in the present programme at His Majesty's Theatre is entitled "111 Little Italy," a story of love and hate worked out in tho Italian quarter of New York. Other splendid samples of the art of animated photography are "Grandfather's Story," "On the Border," "A House of Cards," and "Mr. Poorhck.gets Married." The term of tho present management's lease of His Majesty's Theatre expires shortly, and from Wednesday next the Royal Pictures will be allied to West's at tho new King's Theatro in Taranaki Place.

A programme of uniformly good pictures is.attracting large audiences to St, Thomas's Hall this .week. . WEST'S AND ROYAL PICTURES. Next Wednesday the Royal Pictures join forces with West's Pictures, and open the . King's Theitre. - Special 'arrangements have been made by.tho pro-prietary-in England for a weekly supply of pictures, and the sole agency of a number.of film manufacturers has been secured, thus enabling patrons to view some' ot the best of the world's market. The programme for the opening performance has been specially selected with a view to satisfying all classes. It embraces the latest pictorial successes. An augmented orchestra will play appropriate music to the pictures nightly. The box plan tor the opening performance is now oh view at Abel's in Manners Street. SUNDAY CONCERT.' < The Wellington Professional Orchestra will give a concert at the. Town Hall next Sunday night. The programme promises to be one of unusual merit. Among the items will bo Rossini's famous overture to "II Barbiere do Sevigllia," Offenbach's charming "Barcarolle, coupled with Lataha's "Herz e Herz" will be an item of considerable interest. The collection will go towards augmenting the library, funds. BOYS' INSTITUTE GARDEN FETE.' Tho committee of the Boys'. Institute gnrden' fete are to be congratulated on the success which has, so - far, attended their efforts. They have been fortunate in following an idea which has "caught on," and, judging by the sale of tickets, a very largo attendance is promised. In the varied programme of attractions all tastes are catered for, and the .Botanical Gardens should present a gay appearance to-morrow.- In addition to tho other bands, the Wellington Pipe Band will play at intervals. during the afternoon, and there \\-V.\ be Highland dances by members, of t:ia Wellington Pipe Band' and Dancers' Club. As it will be impossible for everyone to hear the concert in the rotunda, a second programme will be given in the' swing grounds : above. The young ladies connected with the various stalls and marquee's are vieing, with each other in-, making-a special feature of their displays, and distinctive colours will be worn. It is advertised that in the event of the weather being unfavourable, arrangements are made to hold the function in the Town Hall. BESSES O', TH' BARN BAND. ' ; .. i.. Marked cordiality; is being evinced throughout the. Dominion- towards tho "Besses," who inaugurate their return season of four evenings and one matinee performance under - the direction of Messrs. J. and N. Tait at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening next. The programmes . presented during the present tour aro extremely varied, and servo to display the full talents and abilities of the band, whilst being admirably adapted to the taste of every section of the audience.
